The Nutrition Department of Remera-Rukoma District Hospital is committed to supporting, safeguarding, and enhancing patients’ health through detailed nutritional evaluation, effective diet planning and management, nutrition counseling, and specialized dietary support services. By delivering individualized and appropriate nutritional care, the department contributes to patient recovery, disease prevention, and the promotion of overall health and wellbeing.Its core functions include:

  1. Nutrition Assessment and Screening
    • Evaluating patients’ nutritional status to identify malnutrition, dietary deficiencies, or nutrition-related risks.
  2. Diet Planning and Therapeutic Nutrition
    • Developing personalized meal plans and special diets based on patients’ medical conditions and nutritional needs.
  3. Management of Malnutrition
    • Preventing, identifying, and treating undernutrition and other nutrition-related conditions.
  4. Nutrition Counseling and Education
    • Educating patients and families on healthy eating habits, dietary practices, and disease-specific nutrition.
  5. Support for Disease Management
    • Providing nutritional care for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, gastrointestinal disorders, and other chronic illnesses.
  6. Monitoring Patient Nutritional Progress
    • Assessing treatment response and adjusting nutrition plans to support recovery and health improvement.
  7. Maternal and Child Nutrition Services
    • Supporting proper nutrition for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, infants, and children.
  8. Hospital Meal Management and Food Safety
    • Ensuring patients receive safe, balanced, and appropriate meals during hospitalization.
  9. Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
    • Encouraging healthy lifestyles and nutrition practices to prevent illness and improve community health.
  10. Collaboration with Healthcare Teams :Working closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
