The Pediatrics Department of Remera-Rukoma District Hospital provides medical care, treatment, prevention, monitoring, and health promotion services for infants, children, and adolescents (usually from birth up to 18 years of age).Its main roles include:

  1. Diagnosis and Treatment of Childhood Illnesses
    • Managing common and complex diseases affecting children such as infections, respiratory illnesses, digestive disorders, and chronic conditions.
  2. Newborn and Infant Care
    • Monitoring growth and development and providing care for newborn babies.
  3. Preventive Healthcare
    • Immunization (vaccination), routine health screening, nutritional guidance, and disease prevention.
  4. Growth and Development Monitoring
    • Assessing physical, mental, emotional, and developmental milestones.
  5. Emergency Pediatric Care
    • Managing urgent and life-threatening conditions in children.
  6. Management of Chronic Diseases
    • Following up children with conditions such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, and other long-term illnesses.
  7. Nutritional Assessment and Counseling
    • Supporting healthy feeding practices and addressing malnutrition.
  8. Health Education for Parents and Caregivers
    • Providing guidance on child care, hygiene, nutrition, safety, and disease prevention.
  9. Referral and Specialized Care Coordination
    • Referring children to specialized services when necessary.
