Visitors Info
Purpose:
To ensure that all visitors are welcomed upon entering the hospital premises, appropriately oriented, and remain safe while on the hospital premises.
Policy Statements:
- The hospital shall ensure that visitors are properly received, oriented, and kept safe while on the hospital premises.
- The hospital shall ensure that the Customer Care Officer or Public Relations Officer is easily accessible to visitors and able to receive them appropriately.
- The hospital shall ensure that Security Officers are oriented and trained on visitor reception and guidance procedures.
- Visitors shall comply with all hospital rules and regulations while on the hospital premises.
Procedures:
- The Public Relations Officer shall provide and display internal and external signage to guide and orient visitors.
- The Public Relations Officer shall determine and communicate working hours, patient visiting hours, and hospital rules and regulations by posting them at hospital entrances and in different hospital departments.
- The Hospital Security Officer shall welcome visitors, verify and document the required information in visitor registers, and direct visitors to the Customer Care Officer or Public Relations Officer when necessary.
- The Customer Care Officer or Public Relations Officer shall provide appropriate orientation to visitors.
- Visitors shall respect healthcare providers while they are delivering care to patients in the wards.
- Only two visitors shall be allowed to visit a patient at one time.
- Visitors shall not sit on patients’ beds or eat inside patient wards.
- Visits shall only take place during official hospital visiting hours.
- Visitors wishing to visit patients in isolation rooms shall wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) before entering and shall comply with the Patient Isolation Policy and Procedures. These areas include, but are not limited to, the TB Unit and Neonatology Department.
- Visitors shall adhere to hand hygiene and decontamination standards.
- Visitors shall register their departure time in the visitors’ register before leaving the hospital.

Patient Rights & Responsibilities
Everybody, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, cultural belief, or disability is equally entitled to receive health services to promote and maintain good health. Whether the services are being offered through the public, private or NGO sector, everyone has certain rights which cannot be taken away.
Remera-Rukoma District Hospital ensures that patient’s rights are respected by health care providers to establish trust and open communication. Health providers are taught to understand and respect patients’ dignity.
A. PATIENT’S RIGHT
1. Right to Care: You have right:
· To receive care when you need it
To the best quality care available, including preventive, curative, promotive, and rehabilitative care
To a full continuum of care including referral when eded.
2. Right to privacy and confidentiality :You have right:
· To be consulted in a private space free from being seen or overheard by others
· For all information about your medical condition to be kept confidential within the limits of the law.
· To have your medical records read only by individuals involved directly in your care, by individuals monitoring quality or by individuals authorized by law or regulation
3. Right to information: You have right :
· To know who is treating you and what their qualifications are
· To information on your condition, the diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, risks and alternatives
· To know the names of any drugs prescribed their actions and side-effects
4. Right to choices: You have right:
· To participate in decision-making about your care, treatment, and medication and provide informed consent to care
· To a second opinion
· To choose whether to take part in research programs
· To choose how to be addressed during your stay in the hospital (name or title you prefer)
· To use and keep your own personal belongings and valuables safely
· To choose your own clothing and self care routines
· To make your choice on activities , interest , privacy during your stay in the hospital
· To decide if you want visitors or not while you are here. The hospital may need to limit visitors to better for you and other patients
· If necessary to designate those persons who can visit you during your stay
5. Right to respect and dignity: You have right:
· To be treated with respect and for your personal views, religious and cultural beliefs to be respected by all health care workers
· To receive care in a language you can understand
6. Right to complaints: You have right:
· To complain about any aspect of your care and treatment without fear of recrimination
· To receive prompt action on your complaints and a report back on action taken
7. Right to refuse treatment : You have right :
· To refuse any care, treatment, and medication and to be informed about the consequences of doing so
8. Right to pain management : You have right to:
· To have pain assessed and managed appropriately
9. Right to security and safety: You have right to:
· Ask questions if you are concerned about your health or safety
· Be informed about which medications you are taking and why you are taking them
· To be free of discrimination, all forms of abuse or harassment or any risk to your personal safety
10. Right to advocacy:
· To strength advocacy for vulnerable patients like newborns, pregnancy women, children, adolescents, disabled, elderly, comatose for service accessibility
· To do advocacy for Non-insured poor patients to local government.
B. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PATIENT
You are responsible for taking care of your own health
You are responsible to access and use the health system properly and not abuse it
You are responsible for respecting the rights of health providers and other patients
You are responsible to provide health care providers with relevant and accurate information about your health condition
You are responsible to follow all instructions and adhere to treatments prescribed
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the means to pay for all services delivered
